NKOTB is Back... Why?!

I'm watching MMVA 2008 right now (Gossip Girl's Chace Crawford and Leah Miller are giving out the Best Video award to... Hedley!). And I think the just-reunited New Kids On The Block are closing the show.

Yeah. Ew.

OK, I can't lie: I loved *NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, and 98 Degrees. But I never really liked NKOTB and Menudo. Especially NKOTB, although they were one of the first boy bands.

I must admit: I loved it when Spice Girls reunited for a Greatest Hits album and a reunion tour. And I have to admit that I liked Joey McIntyre when he released a solo album featuring "Stay the Same" ('coz that was a good song!).

But New Kids On The Block?!

Aren't they way too old to come back? I mean, Donnie Wahlberg is a decent actor, and Jordan Knight and Joey McIntyre are decent singers. But to come back as a boy band? Why? I scoured the Internet but I can't find any valid reason for their comeback.

At least, the Spice Girls reunited temporarily to (in my own words, because I can't find their official statement) celebrate Girl Power and the 10th anniversary of their shot to fame. That was great. But why is NKOTB coming back? Is it permanent? Or is it going to be a one-time thing to make their fans happy?

Well, the Spice Girls did it (a successful comeback, if only for a while). The Backstreet Boys did it - well, sort of. Will NKOTB do it?

If they can match their old success (I doubt it, though), then maybe an *NSYNC reunion is in the can. Heck, if there's a super boy band that deserves a comeback, it's *NSYNC. But, oh, of course, Justin Timberlake will nix it. I doubt if he can be bothered by a clamouring from their fans. He couldn't even bring himself to record one last new song with the rest of the guys for their "Greatest Hits" album.

Anyway, I hope, for their sake, NKOTB's comeback will be as successful as Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys'.

Oh, look at that: MMVA is done. And MuchMusic is airing an encore presentation (already?). Time to watch Game 5 of the NBA finals. Go Boston!

Why is New Kids on the Block getting back together? I can help you with that. I've done enough research and listened to enough interviews to answer your question. NKOTB are reuniting simply for the sake of making music, the love of their fans, & having fun in life! :) I don't see any harm in that.

As big of an N'SYNC & BSB fan as you say you are, I'm surprised you are disrespecting NKOTB seeing as your bands would never have existed if it weren't for their predecessors. Lou Pearlman got the idea to form your boybands from NKOTB so it'd be cool if we all showed a little respect. NKOTB know that New Edition is THEIR predecessor and they definitely show THEM a lot of respect.

NKOTB know that they were the first bigtime U.S. boyband and they know because of that, they were the ones who had to take the fall for everyone who comes after them. They made all the right moves yet they also made all the mistakes so that bands today have it much easier. That's probably why you don't see a gazillion and one pieces of N'SYNC merchandise everywhere. That was a management issue. You can't honestly believe that NKOTB would approve of manufacturing pink slippers with their faces on it now, could you?

As a fan of NKOTB, I just wanted you to know where they are coming from. Most critics don't really take the time to do much research and start mouthing off nonsense that doesn't qualify as facts. I appreciate your curiosity and if I haven't answered your question, I hope you will still respect that NKOTB have their own agenda. They've got a surprise for the fans, something "up his sleeve" as Mark Wahlberg told us when he spoke about his brother and the reunion. Their relationship with their fans is something very special that no other band has or will ever have. It is genuine, priceless, and untouchable. I'm not sure how N'SYNC & BSB treated their fans but if they were just as great to you fans, then you must know what I mean. Thanks for listening. :)

Firstly, for the record, I wasn't trying to disrespect NKOTB and their fans. I was merely wondering why would they reunite after all these years. I couldn't find anything on the Web, so I posted this blog entry. Apologies if this post offended you and the rest of the NKOTB fans.

Secondly, thanks for the comment. And I hope NKOTB becomes just as successful (or even more) than they were. :)
