Wanted: More Writing Feedback

Hey, everyone!

I joined Writing.com a week ago, and I uploaded the first draft of my short story, Before I Let You Go.

It only has one review and rating at the moment. While I appreciate the five-star rating, I would like to see more reviews and ratings. I would like to read which part is working, which part isn't, what needs to be changed, et cetera. This is the first story I wrote in a long while and the first one I ever uploaded anywhere for feedback.

So I ask you guys to read my story and write what you think of it. I promise to reciprocate!

Thanks, guys!

August 24th Dilemma

We're only halfway through the sixth and final season, but the release date for the LOST Season 6 DVD/Blu-Ray set has been announced. It will be released in North America on 24 August 2010, three and a half months earlier than the last two seasons. Per Lostpedia and TVShowsOnDVD, the set will contain five discs and the usual bonus features, plus original scripted content produced by Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse and Crafting a Final Season feature. The DVD set's current price is USD$59.99 (CAD$79.99), while the Blu-Ray set is on sale for USD$79.99 (CAD$94.99).

Interestingly, LOST: The Complete Collection, which includes all 121 episodes from Seasons 1 to 6, will also be released on 24 August 2010. Per the same sources above, the DVD/Blu-Ray set will contain all previous extras, plus one bonus disc with at least two hours of additional content. The DVD set price is USD$229.99 (CAD$269.99), while the Blu-Ray set price is USD$279.99 (CAD$349.99).

What, oh, what am I going to get???

Obviously, I wanna see the goodies in the Season 6 set. I have the DVD sets for Season 1 to 4 and the Blu-Ray set for Season 5, and the bonus content in all of them are freaking amazing. And, like most fans, I usually get the DVD sets for the bonus content, especially in Season 5 where I got to download the episodes from iTunes before the DVD was released. But I also want to see the additional two hours of content in the Compete Series bonus disc. However, what am I gonna do with the Season 1 to 5 sets that I already own?

I have both the Season 6 Blu-Ray set and the Complete Collection Blu-Ray set on my Amazon.ca wishlist. I need to put in my pre-order soon, so I have to decide which one I'm pre-ordering ASAP!!!

Maybe I'll decide after the series finale? Whaddya think?

I Love My Sleep

You Are Sleep

You tend to solve your problems simply. And when you're tired, grouchy, and headache-y, it only makes sense to take a nap.

Not only will sleep cure your hangover, it's also likely to cure anything that ails you ever.

Whenever life gets difficult, you retreat and refuel. And nothing renews you like a little nap time.

Your troubles may not go away forever while you're asleep, but at least they are gone for the moment.

That's why I'm always asleep for most of January 1st. Mwahahahahaha!

Deep Thinker? Hehe.

You Are a Conjunction

You are a deep thinker, and you're always looking for the connections between things.

You see the whole big picture as far as the world goes. You are good at developing intricate theories.

In your view, we are all interconnected. The little things we do effect one another, and the results are pretty interesting.

You tend to be a mix and match type of person. You like unusual pairings - in food, style, and in company.

This is interesting... Good at developing theories? Haha. I've only had two LOST theories that were proven correct. Mwahahaha... At least, it says I'm a deep thinker.

Back to School This Spring or Summer?

While business is still slow, I think I should take another editing course at Simon Fraser University's Writing and Publishing Program. Basic Copy Editing is the next course in the Editing Certificate program - to which I haven't registered because of the estimated total cost - so I thought it would be a good idea to check it out.

Anyway, I'm not sure which schedule to choose. The only two workable schedules are in late spring and in late summer:
  • Four Wednesdays, May 19th to June 9th, 18:30 to 21:30 at the Vancouver campus
  • Monday to Thursday (i.e. four days), August 23rd to August 26th, 09:00 to 12:00 at the Vancouver campus.
Instructor is the same (Nick Rockel), as well as the fee ($370).

The spring schedule starts four days before ABC airs LOST's series finale so I'd be freaking out and preparing myself for the end, which means I'd need something to get it out of my head for a night. On the other hand, it's going to take me an hour and 15 minutes to get to the Vancouver campus after work and an hour and 55 minutes to get home. I've taken night classes before and nothing untoward has happened to me. Still, I'm gonna need to take a lot of precautions - say, keep pepper spray in my purse - when I go home.

The summer schedule is great because I can take this week off work and devote the entire four days to the course. Since it's a hassle to commute from Langley to Vancouver every day, I can rent a hotel room for four days (which, of course, is an extra cost). It's like a staycation, but at least I won't be in Langley. Or not. However, four straight days of studying maybe too fast, too much for my brain.

If only Basic Copy Editing were offered as an online course like the introductory one, I wouldn't have to freak out about the schedule.

At the moment, the summer schedule looks better. But we shall see.

I Am Loyal

You Are Loyal

You are a true friend. You are faithful and protective of those you love... sometimes to a fault.

You are sometimes wary of strangers, but you open open completely to the people you trust.

You can be surprisingly playful and fun loving. Goofing off is one of your favorite pastimes.

But when you need to be counted on, you step right up. You're always willing to work hard or defend your pack.

That's right. Mess with my friends and family, and you will see me morph into the Smoke Monster from LOST. Then I will kick you into an alternate universe. Hehehe...

Whirly Skirts Commercial Makes Me Laugh

Every time I see this new Old Navy commercial, I just crack up.

Did y'all hear what the mannequin said at the end? "Never give up your dreams of being fake."

You know what I think every time I hear that? "Like Heidi Montag!" And then I laugh.

Seriously, 10 plastic surgeries in a day can only mean being fake has been her dream. And, wouldn't you know, she wants more plastic surgeries.

Plastic surgery can't make anyone - let alone Heidi Montag - perfect. It only makes people synthetic and unnatural. It also perpetuates the notion that perfect looks should be people's ultimate goal. It's completely wrong.

Tsk tsk tsk... God help this woman.

Entertainment Weekly Lists 10 Best Shows On Now

The cover story of this week's issue of Entertainment Weekly is about the 10 best TV shows on now. LOST isn't number one - although, it should be! - but The Good Wife is!!!

Here's the full list. Y'all can view Ken Tucker's take on these shows here.
  1. The Good Wife (CBS)
  2. Breaking Bad (AMC)
  3. LOST (ABC)
  4. Friday Night Lights (NBC)
  5. Fringe (FOX)
  6. Modern Family (ABC)
  7. Glee (FOX)
  8. Southland (TNT)
  9. Damages (FX)
  10. Caprica (Syfy)
Awesome! I love half of the shows on this list. Hehe...

Before anyone screams bloody murder and says other excellent shows (Mad Men, Community, Parks & Recreations, et cetera) aren't included in the list, I just want to say that there are many excellent shows airing now and it is difficult to fit them all in a top-ten list. Plus some cable shows, like Mad Men, are in between seasons at the moment and, therefore, don't belong in a top-ten list for shows airing now.

Obviously, at the top of my list is LOST. Wait a minute... What if I made a list of my own? Hmmm... Let me compile my list and I'll post the top 10 or top 20 later.

"Well, The Time Has Come."

Congratulations to Kathryn Bigelow (Best Director) and The Hurt Locker (Best Picture)!!!

I totally cried when Barbra Streisand uttered, "Well, the time has come," and looked at Kathryn Bigelow. I cried even more - yes, I'm a dork - when Tom Hanks simply announced that the 2010 Academy Awards Best Picture is The Hurt Locker.

I'd been quietly rooting for this movie ever since I got the DVD and saw its excellence. And that was after I saw Inglourious Basterds, which I loved.

And, oh, today is International Women's Day. Hehehehe...

Boo-yah.
